Kona Imin Center to Close Through January for Improvements
Kona Imin Center will be closed beginning Monday, August 3 in order for facility improvements to take place.
County of Hawai’i Department of Parks and Recreation officials say the closure will last until January 2016.
The public will be unable to use the facility as improvements are made. Accessible parking, a new walkway and ramp, along with kitchen and restroom modifications are among the items to be renovated. P&R officials say the modifications will comply with Americans with Disabilities Act requirements.
A new sprinkler system, smoke alarm systems, sewage system enhancements, and roofing repairs are also on the renovation list.
Those seeking to make new reservations will have to wait until the end of January 2016.
Maka’eo Events Pavilion at Kailua Park, known as the Old Kona Airport Park, will be open for reservations.
Changes that will go in effect with the temporary closure include the relocation of the P&R’s Elderly Activities Division. Beginning Wednesday, Aug. 5, the division will relocate its Nutrition Program to the Hualalai Housing Phase 2 complex on a Monday, Wednesday, and Friday schedule. Those who have questions about the move of the division should call 327-3558.
Imin’s site manager will be available at the West Hawai’i Civic Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Anyone looking to get in contact with the manager should call 323-4320.
