Subcontractor Electrocuted at Waikoloa Resort

Hilton Waikoloa Village officials have confirmed that the man who died from an electric shock was conducting routine electrical work on its property when the incident occurred.

“It’s a tragedy anytime a loss of life occurrs,” said Roger McDowell, Hilton Waikoloa Village director of marketing. “Our prayers go out to the family of Aaron Barrett, who is the affected individual.

“We are cooperating with all of the local authorities to determine the cause of death, which is currently under investigation.”

Resort officials say the work was not part of rennovations, as reported by the Hawai’i Police Department.

A Honoka’a man died Wednesday morning at a Waikoloa resort after being electrocuted.

According to the Hawai’i Police Department, officers responded to the resort after receiving an 8:44 a.m. call, where they learned that a subcontractor conducting renovations suffered a fatal electric shock.

The man, identified as 34-year-old Aaron Barrett, was taken to the North Hawai’i Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:40 a.m.

HPD has ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
