Hilo Fuel Prices Level Out, Kona Drops Slightly
Gas prices in Hilo were relatively steady over the past week.
The average cost of regular fuel in Hilo on Monday remained at $3.30 with no fluctuation in average over the past week. Mid-grade gas rose by one cent on Monday from what it was the day prior, but had a steady average of $3.39, the same that was reported last week. Premium fuel rose by one cent in average to $3.51 since last Monday.
Analysis of AAA’s Fuel Gauge Report shows that Hilo’s regular and mid-grade gas have risen by two cents each in average, compared to one month ago. The average cost of premium fuel has risen by four cents in the past month.
Fuel prices this week are significantly lower than what they were one year ago. AAA reports that gas prices for Hilo in 2014 during the same time period for regular fuel cost $4.13, while mid-grade was an average of $4.25 and premium fuel cost $4.35.
Gas prices in Kona have seen a slight drop over the past week. Regular fuel prices in Kona were an average of $3.52 on Monday, one cent less than last week, while mid-grade and premium gas prices were $3.64 and $3.67, a two and five cent decrease, respectively. The averages are based on Big Island Now calculations of Gas Buddy data.
In Honolulu, the average gas price of regular fuel is four cents less than in Hilo and 26 cents less than prices in Kona. Oahu residents are seeing an average of $3.29 for regular fuel.
Diesel prices in Hilo are an average of $4.23, showing no fluctuation since last week, while Honolulu diesel buyers are paying an average of $4.51, a penny more than last week’s average.
