Ohana Shoreline Fishing Tournament Coming in August
Fisherman from the island will once again have an opportunity to take part in the 19th Annual Ohana Shoreline Fishing Tournament, held Aug. 21-23.
The tournament is put on by the Hawai’i County Department of Parks and Recreation.
Last year, over 300 participants entered the event. Bobby Akana brought in the largest catch at 101 pounds.
There are a number of different divisions to participate in: keiki 5-12, teens, men, women, kūpuna 55 years and up, and ‘ohana. There will also be a special barbless circle hook challenge. Weigh-ins will be held on the final day of the tournament at the Honoka’a Gymnasium.
An entry fee of either $25 or $30 per person or family is required, with the cost depending on the division entered. Registration forms and a list of rules can be found at all P&R facilities throughout the island, as well as S. Tokunaga Store in Hilo and J. Hara Store in Kurtistown. It can also be found on the P&R website.
The registration deadline is July 31 and all forms must be turned in to the P&R Recreation Division office, located at 799 Pi‘ilani St. in Hilo. Checks must be made payable to “County of Hawai’i Director of Finance.”
