Bowling Tournament Remembers Kona Fisherman
Many in the Kona community were saddened when news came down on May 29 that resident Randy Llanes had died in a fishing accident at Honokokau Harbor.
Not only was Llanes a well-known fisherman, but he also spent time at KBXtreme in Kailua-Kona as a frequent bowler. This Sunday, the bowling alley and entertainment center is holding a fundraiser for Llanes’ family.
Sunday’s bowling tournament fundraiser will consist of five-person teams. An entry fee of $39 will be charged to each individual. Prizes will be awarded and a round of Corona beer will be given to each participant, except for minors, who will receive a complimentary soda.
There will also be a silent auction. KBXtreme announced through its Facebook page that some of the silent auction items include two-night hotel stays from the Waikoloa Beach Marriott and Royal Kona Resort and a jack stand from NAPA Auto Parts. Other items have been donated by Jack’s Diving Locker, Harbor House Restaurant, Captain Zodiac, Sam Choy’s Kai Lanai Restaurant, and Hawai’I Titanium Rings.
All proceeds will go to the Llanes family through the “LTW…Llanes, That’s Why” GoFundMe online account. As of early Friday evening, over $32,000 had been raised with a goal of $40,000.
Check-in time for the tournament is at 8:30 a.m. Anyone interested in donating silent auction items or making any other donations can e-mail Craig@kbxtreme.com.
