Once a month on Sundays, Kokua Kailua provides an oceanfront community focused gala event alongside Ali’i Drive fronting Kailua Bay. During these events, the historic Kailua Kona Village transforms into a celebratory-like pedestrian only walkway, local marketplace, and farmers market. If you’re in the area or on-island during one of the Kokua Kailua events, you must check it out! It is definitely a must-do activity in the Historic Kona Town.
At Kokua Kailua, Big Island residents and guests can join together to enjoy live music, local artist residency displays, keiki (kids) activities, Hawaiian cultural entertainment, and great shopping and foodie opportunities with local vendors. Special kama’aina pricing, discounts and promotions are also available at local restaurants and shops all throughout Kailua-Kona.
At 4 p.m., all guests can enjoy beautiful Hawaiian entertainment that honors Hawaiian royalty on the lawn of the Hulihe’e Palace. The Hulihe’e Palace is a Hawaiian historical site located in Kailua-Kona, and is operated by the Daughters of Hawai’i. Originally, the home was once a Summer retreat for Hawaiian royalty, and it currently has one of the largest collections of Victorian-era artifacts from the era of Queen Kapiolani and King David Kalakaua (aka ‘The Merry Monarch’). The Daughters of Hawai’i organization was established in 1903, and also owns and maintains Queen Emma’s Summer Palace, and the site of Kamehameha III’s birth at Keauhou Bay.
