Hawaiian Remains Top On-Time Airline
Hawaiian Airlines was the top on-time airline in the country for the month of April.
According to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Air Travel Consumer Report, Hawaiian reported an on-time rate of 92.7 percent at all American airports. The rate was better than Alaska Airlines, who ranked second with an 89.3 percent on-time rate.
Overall, airlines left on time 81.8 percent of the time.
Hawaiian has held the top on-time rank for two consecutive months. In the last 12 months, Hawaiian has also claimed the top spot at 90.2 percent. The company faced 11 flight cancellations out of over 6,000 flights regularly scheduled, a clip of 0.2 percent. That rate is tied with Delta Airlines for the lowest percentage in the country.
On the other hand, Hawaiian has seen an increase in the amount of mishandled baggage reports from its customers. The airline received 1,587 baggage reports during the month of April, a 2.05 percentage rate per 1,000 customers. It was the fourth lowest total among all airlines. The total number of reports issued for lost baggage have increased by nearly 200 from a year ago.
Consumers, however, rarely complained about Hawaiian in general, with just five consumer complaints issued in April, the company saw a decrease from seven in the same month last year. Per 100,000 enplanements, it came in at 0.63 percent, third behind Southwest Airlines and Skywest Airlines, respectively.
Hilo International Airport had a 95.5 percent overall on-time arrival rate and 97 percent on-time departure rate. Kona International Airport reported overall on-time arrivals at 92.9 percent and on-time departures at 94.3 percent.
