DOT Seeks Comment on Improvement Project Revisions
Public comment is being sought by the Hawai’i Department of Transportation on the Federal Fiscal Year 2015 proposed Statewide Transportation Improvements Program Revision #2.
In the document, DOT outlines projects that are part of the proposed revisions for Federal Highway or Transit funding.
Revision #2 is the last of major revisions scheduled for the 2015 federal fiscal year, according to the DOT.
Changes being made in the revisions were needed to address shifts in project schedules, priorities, and cost estimate increases or decreases for FHWA funded projects, which have occurred during the project development process.
On the Big Island, DOT is looking to advance drainage improvements at Kawa on Mamalahoa Highway and defer funding for drainage improvements in the vicinity of Puuwaawaa Ranch, also on Mamalahoa Highway.
In addition, revisions have been proposed to seek funding for intersection improvements along Queen Kaahumanu Highway and Kawaihae Road.
Full funding for improvements along the Daniel K. Inouye Highway are also included in the revision. According to the document, the funding will be used to widen the two-lane road on each end, from mile markers 6-11 on the East Hawai’i side of the road, and from Mamalahoa Highway to mile marker 42 on the opposite side.
Adjustments to the funding for the rural transportation program are also included.
