Divers Rescued off Leleiwi Point
United States Coast Guard crews assisted in the rescue of two divers of the coast of the Big Island Saturday morning.
Strong currents reportedly pulled the pair eight miles east of Leleiwi Point. The divers were aboard the 19-foot recreational boat Tiger Too before being pulled out to sea.
At 10:22 a.m., watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Honolulu Command Center received notification that the two divers were missing from the boat.
A little over 10 minutes later, an HC-130 Hercules airplane crew who were conducting a scheduled mission was diverted to begin a search. Crew aboard the Hercules located the divers four miles from their reported initial location. Two smoke flares were dropped, and their location was relayed to the boat’s captain who rescued them.
According to the U.S. Coast Guard, the divers are in good condition.
