Kahilu Theatre Presents: GODSPELL
GODSPELL will be performed by the Kahilu Theatre Youth Troupe at the Kahilu Theatre on Friday, June 19 at 7 p.m., Saturday, June 20 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, June 21 at 4 p.m.
A group of vagabound teens and young adults will spread messages of kindness as they sprawl across the urban, graffiti-covered New York City set singing hit songs like “Day by Day,” “Oh Bless the Lord,” and “Light of the World.” Jesus, Judas and John the Baptist, characters among the cast, will reenact parables through games, storytelling, dance and physical comedy.
The story of Jesus’s life will dance across the stage as the musical combines an eclectic blend of songs that range from rock, to pop, blues and vaudeville.
The musical is written by Steven Schwart, the composer of Pippin and Wicked.
GODSPELL will be the second annual Kahilu produced musical in two decades, following last year’s “25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.”
Using the revised 2012 version of the script, the Kahilu Theatre Youth Troupe will create a masterful retelling of the original production under the direction of Beth Dunnington.
Aurelien Eulert is the musical’s Musical Director, Dr. Angela Alforque is the Choreographer, and Vocal Coaching is being conducted by Hawai’i Performing Arts Festival Artistic Director Val Underwood.
Tickets to the event cost $30/$25/$20/$15 and can be purchased online at the Kahilu Theatre website, by calling 885-6868, or by visiting the Kahilu Theatre Box Office open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
