DWS: North Kona Water Conservation Status
The Department of Water Supply is reminding customers in the areas of Keauhou to Keahole, up to Pu’ukala in North Kona that ongoing repairs of the Honokohau, Holulua, Hualalai, and Kahalu’u “B” wells continues.
During the repairs affected areas will remain under a Water Conservation status. As part of the status, customers are asked to voluntary reduce water useable by 10 percent.
Tips from the DWS to reduce water usage includes the following:
Wash only full loads of laundry or dishes at a time.
Check faucets and pipes for leaks.
Keep a container of drinking water in the refrigerator.
Do not let water run when you wash your hands, shave, or brush your teeth.
Reduce showering times.
Use water-saving devices.
Use a broom instead of a water hose for cleaning.
Irrigate at night and with a pail for smaller jobs.
Use drinking water wisely.
DWS also suggests that agricultural users keep their water usage to a minimum, irrigating only at night and during non-peak hours between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Water use for dust control should also be minimized.
