Siren Warning Systems Test Scheduled
Testing of the outdoor siren warning systems will follow its monthly schedule on Monday. The Hawai’i Emergency Management Agency will conduct its testing of the siren system in coordination with live audio broadcasting at 11:45 a.m.
During the testing period, a steady one minute tone will sound on all sirens. In emergency scenarios, the tone sounded from the sirens would alert the public that there is the potential for an emergency threatening life and property. In addition to natural hazards, the Emergency Alert System could be used for a terrorist incident or acts of war.
In the case of an emergency, local radio and television stations will provide emergency information and instructions from Civil Defense when the sirens are sounded.
Siren issues should be reported to Hawai’i County Civil Defense by calling 935-0031.
The front section of the telephone directory can provide more information on disaster preparedness.
