Kilauea Summit Update – 5/29/15

Lava activity at Kilauea’s summit remains active and has been consistent over the past day.

According to Hawaiian Volcano Observatory, a slight inflationary tilt at Kilauea’s summit that began on Wednesday morning has lasted into Friday.

In addition, HVO reports that seismic tremor at the summit that was first recorded on Thursday continues. The tremor has caused episodic bursts that are associated with spattering within the Overlook vent.

Seismicity rates below Kilauea’s summit and at Puʻu ʻŌʻō are at background levels, according to officials.

At the north flank of Puʻu ʻŌʻō, tiltmeters continue to show no significant tilt.

HVO scientists observing the June 27 lava flow through webcam and satellite imagery report surface flow activity within 4.3 miles to the northeast of Puʻu ʻŌʻō.
