On Wednesday, May 20, cycle enthusiasts and amateurs alike are invited to participate in a bike ride across Hilo to honor cyclists injured or killed by motorists, and to raise awareness of bikers on the road.
The 2015 “Ride of Silence” will start at the Hawai`i County building parking lot on Aupuni Street at 5 p.m. and commence at 5:30 p.m. The ride will cover 6.5 miles of Hilo in total silence.
Participants are required to wear helmets and travel no faster than 12 mph to demonstrate safety on the road. Headlights and tail lights are recommended.
Mayor Billy Kenoi and the Mayor’s Active Living Advisory Council will join the bike ride along with cyclists from around the world for the event encouraging motorists to drive with Aloha.
