SSW Peaks Today, Breezy Winds Expected

A Small Craft Advisory is posted for all Big Island waters through 6:00 p.m. Sunday. East winds up to 30 knots are forecasted along with rough seas of 10 to 15 feet. Inexperienced mariners should avoid navigating in these conditions.

Big Island Surf Forecast

Hilo side: Waist/head high surf is expected today. The best focal points might see overhead waves on the sets. Messy conditions due to the winds.

Kona side: Wave heights of waist/chest high are expected for southerly exposures. Best breaks could reach shoulder/head high occasionally on the sets.

South: Wave heights waist/head high today. Standout spots could get slightly bigger waves on the sets.

Our current south-southwest is expected to peak today and ease through early next week. Smaller surf expected for the Kona side and southeast coast. The swell is expected to show best at South Point. A small swell is expected for the second half of the week out of the southwest.

The new northwest swell is expected to hold through Saturday. This swell will fade Sunday into Monday.

Keep in mind, surf heights are measured on the face of the wave from trough to crest. Heights vary from beach to beach, and at the same beach, from break to break.
