Kea’au Student Arrested Following Lockdown

The Hawai’i Police Department arrested a student after a temporary lockdown on the campus of Kea’au High School.

Around 10:19 a.m. Tuesday, Puna patrol officers responded to the high school after receiving a phone call. According to police, the 17-year-old male student physically harassed and threatened school employees who were attempting to detain him after receiving information that the student planned to fight another student.

After the altercation, the student left the campus, triggering a lockdown.

At 11:18 a.m., the student was located by police at Herbert Shipman Park. He was arrested on suspicion of harassment, truancy, and two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening.

Police released the student pending further investigation later in the day after conferring with the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney.
