A Small Craft Advisory is posted for all Big Island waters through 6:00 p.m. Thursday for east winds up to to 30 knots and rough seas up to 12 feet. Inexperienced mariners should avoid navigating in these conditions.

Hilo side: Messy waist to head high waves are expected today with occasional plusses at the best breaks.

Kona side: Wave heights of knee to waist high are expected. The best breaks could be a bit bigger at the best tides on the sets.

South: Wave heights of knee to waist high are expected. Messy trade swell is expected for the southeast coast up to waist or even chest high.

Screen Shot 2015-04-08 at 8.44.49 PMA northwest boost is expected to continue building Thursday. This should peak late Thursday hold through Friday and then begin to fade through the weekend. The Kona side will be heavily shadowed from this swell. A small bump out of the north-northwest is also expected Sunday into early next week.

Tradeswell is expected to hold for the Hilo side this week. Conditions will be sloppy due to the onshore flow.

A small south-southwest is expected to peak Thursday and hold through the end of the work week before slowly fading through the weekend. Nothing much on the horizon out of the South Pacific.

Keep in mind, surf heights are measured on the face of the wave from trough to crest. Heights vary from beach to beach, and at the same beach, from break to break.
