Wet Windward Weather Expected to Continue

A High Wind Warning is posted for the summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa for 50 to 70 mph southwest winds. Gusts could reach over 100 mph. This may make driving difficult and dangerous. The advisory is posted through 6:00 p.m. Monday.

A Winter Weather Advisory is posted through 6:00 p.m. Monday for expected winter conditions of snow, ice and freezing fog. Up to two inches of new snow is expected along with high winds of 50 – 70 mph, gusting to over 100 mph. Temperatures should be in the mid 20’s to lower 30’s. The summit access road was closed at the time of this posting.

Today

Mostly cloudy skies are expected today for windward and mauka areas with numerous showers. Scattered showers are in the forecast for leeward areas with areas of haze. North winds are forecasted from 10 to 15 mph. Cooler than normal temperatures are expected with high temperatures from 76° to 81°.

Tonight

Mostly cloudy skies are expected with scattered showers for windward spots and isolated showers for lee areas. Cool north winds are forecasted from 10 to 15 mph. Cooler than normal temperatures are expected with low temperatures from 63° to 68° are expected.

 

Looking Ahead

Light northerly winds are expected to continue to bring low clouds and cool air to the Big Island. Deep cloud layers and widespread, but mostly light, rain will prevail over the island of Hawaii. More easterly, but lighter, winds and less cloudy conditions are expected for next weekend. Temperatures are expected to continue to feel cooler than normal with dew points in the upper 50s and low 60s.
