Rainbow Falls Construction Will Impact Parking
A project scheduled to begin Monday, March 9 at the Rainbow Falls section of Wailuku River State Park will impact parking, according to Department of Land and Natural Resource officials.
The 6-month project, under contractor Ludwig Construction, will improve accessible passenger loading zones for buses in the parking lot. Among the planned improvements is the relocation of the loading zone, away from traffic flow and onto a more durable concrete pad.
Once the construction is complete, those with disabilities will have safer and properly designed access to the Rainbow Falls lookout area.
Parking is expected to be impacted during the 180-day improvement project. “We ask the public’s assistance and understanding,” said State Parks director Dan Quinn. “Safety will be of our utmost concern in directing vehicles to parking locations and limiting parking. We will also be notifying the local tour operators so they can plan accordingly.”
Officials say the cost of the improvements is $87,600.
