Overnight Water Shut-Off Scheduled for South Hilo
Many South Hilo areas will be impacted by an overnight water shut-off by the Department of Water Supply, beginning March 6 at 10 p.m. and lasting through March 7 at 5 a.m.
DWS officials say the shut-off is necessary to change a broken 16″ main valve.
The following areas will be impacted:
Waianuenue Avenue and Rainbow drive from Waiau Street to Kapiolani Street, as well as Haili Street and all side streets in the area.
Kaumana Drive, from Waianunue Avenue to Mohouli Street, up to Waianuenue Avenue. Other roads that will be impacted by the shut-off are ‘Ekaha Street, ‘Iwa ‘Iwa Street, WiliWili Street, Akekeke Street, ‘Oma’o Road, Hualilili Street, Pu’uhina Street, Waiea Place, Punahele Street, Malanai Street, Spring Street, Ho’omana Street, Waipuna Place, Liko Lehua Street, Palapalai Street, Laniuma Place, Maile Lau Li’i Place, Uluwai Street, and Lopez Drive.
Mohouli Street, from Kaumana Drive down to Komohana will be impacted, including Kukuau Street from Mohouli Street to Komohana Street. Kahikina Street, La Hou Street, Ohukea Street, Hueu Place, and Kaulele Place will also be impacted.
Komohana Street, from Waianuenue Avenue to Nowelo Street, will also be affected, including Nowelo Street from Komohana Street down to South A’Ohoku Place, and also including Huali Way, Huali Place, Pu’uhonu Place and Pu’uhonu Way.
Services along Haili Street, ‘Alae Street, Ala Muku Street and Pu’uhili Street, including Kamakahonu Street, Laimana Street, and Hala’i Street, including Kamakahonu Street, Laimana Street, Hala’i Street, Hala’i Hill, Uili Street, Hina Street, and ‘Elepaio Street, will also face the water interruption.
The waterlines will be flushed and cleaned when water service returns. During that time, customers may notice turbid or discolored water, Customers may also notice air trapped in plumbing, which would be released upon initial use of water.
DWS officials also advise customers to take precautions by unplugging devices that are dependent on water pressure or that may be damaged by the water shut-off.
