Hawai’i Electric Light says that progress continues to be made in the restoration of power to areas impacted by the weekend’s high winds.

About 800 customers in portions of Ainaloa, Hawaiian Beaches, Nanawale, Leilani Estates, Lanipuna, and Hawaiian Acres had power restored Monday night as crews from Hilo, Kona, and Waimea worked continuously.

Company officials say that as of 9 a.m. Tuesday, approximately 300 customers were still without power. Those customers, mainly in Nanawale, Leilani Estates, and in various pockets of Puna should have power restored by Wednesday, as crews continue to work on getting the lines back on the grid throughout the day.

Downed power lines should be treated as energized and dangerous. The public is reminded to not handle any fallen or damaged utility equipment and to call 9-1-1 rather than approach someone who is injured by a powerline.
