Man Dies at Boiling Pots in Apparent Drowning
A 33-year-old Puna man drowned at Boiling Pots in Hilo Thursday evening.
The Hawai’i Police Department says they responded to a 5:13 p.m. call where Hawai’i County Fire Department personnel had located a submerged man who was unresponsive. Fire officials attempted to revive the man, but efforts were unsuccessful.
According to witnesses at the scene, the man began to struggle while swimming under a waterfall.
Police say that he was taken to the Hilo Medical Center, where he was officially pronounced dead.
The man, tentatively identified as a Pahoa resident, has not been named pending positive identification and notification of his family.
Foul play is not suspected, and the case has been classified as a coroner’s inquest.
An autopsy has been ordered to determine his exact cause of death.
