Jaggar Museum Revises Operating Hours

Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park’s Jaggar Museum has modified its hours of operations. Beginning last Friday, the museum hours changed to 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. daily, which is an opening time two hours later than it was previously.

The Kilauea Visitor Center is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Both of the facilities’ Hawai’i Pacific Parks Association bookstores will be open during the same hours.

Park officials say that the change in hours allows the park to keep both centers open seven days a week within the park, which is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Views of Kilauea Volcano’s summit eruption can be seen from the outdoor observation deck adjacent to Jaggar Museum, as well as along various vantage points along Crater Rim Trail.

Ranger-guided free programs occur at both Jagger Museum and Kilauea Visitor Center.

At 2 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. daily, Jaggar Museum hosts a ranger talk, “Life on the Edge,” talking about the current eruption from Halema’uma’u Crater and Kilauea Volcano’s eruptive nature.

The Kilauea Visitor Center offers a ranger-guided walk, “Explore the Summit,” at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. daily. A geology talk is also presented daily at the center at 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. daily.

Other activities happening throughout the day are posted after the visitor centers open.
