Hawai’i County Civil Defense says that the brush fire near Aloha Kona Drive and Hualalai Road is now contained.

Hawai’i County Fire Department units are remaining at the scene to extinguish the fire.

Hawai’i County Fire Department crews are battling a runaway brush fire near Aloha Kona Drive and Hualalai Road.

According to Hawai’i County Civil Defense, the fire is located near the Big Island Motors Kona location. An employee at the dealership said that the fire was behind its service building, but could not give an exact distance of how far away it was.

According to a radio message from Hawai’i County Civil Defense, the fire is 75 percent contained and units are continuously working to extinguish it.

No properties have been threatened by the fire. Emergency crews, however, are working with the staff of the Regency at Hualalai to temporarily relocate clients or tenants that have been adversely affected by the blaze.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area while fire fighters continue to put out the fire.
