Lava Causes Brush Fire in Ainaloa Area

Hawai’i County Civil Defense says that a fire break-out on the West side of Highway 130, about one mile above the highway and 1.5 miles south of the Ainaloa subdivision, is currently being managed by the Hawai’i County Fire Department.

The brush fire, a result of the June 27 lava flow, is moving in a north-northeast direction and currently covering 150 acres, all of which are within the fire break area.

Civil Defense says that the brush fire does not pose a threat to area communities and that HFD personnel are on the ground working on extinguishing the fire.
