Hilo’s Wong Signs Endorsement Deal With Jamba Juice

Major League Baseball standout Kolten Wong has signed a two-year agreement to become a spokesperson for Jamba Juice Hawai’i.

Wong, a graduate of Kamehameha-Hawai’i and a former collegiate baseball player at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa, just completed his first full season with the St. Louis Cardinals. He hit 12 home runs in 113 games last season with a .249 batting average. He also hit three home runs in the postseason.

Wong will help Jamba Juice promote its new line of juices, which “are blended with whole foods like kale, beets, carrots, apples and ginger, and provide consumers with a great-tasting and affordable way to get extra vitamins and nutrition,” according to a company statement.

“Jamba Juice has always been a part of my daily work-out routine, so advocating the health and performance benefits of their new fresh-squeezed juice is more than just a business deal for me,” Wong said.

The second baseman’s first appearance for the company will be at Maui’s Queen Kaahumanu Center location on Jan. 13 between 4-7 p.m. The Maui store will be the first to showcase the new juice program before its statewide release, planned for the summer. A portion of  sales made during that day will go to Maui little league baseball teams.

“Kolten is a local hero doing Hawaii proud on a national stage,” said Jamba Juice Hawai’i CEO Chris Scanlan. “We have followed him since his UH days, and his focus on performance, hard work and dietary discipline is as inspirational as is his low-key, no-nonsense response to all the fanfare.”

There are 33 Jamba Juice locations around the state. Two of them are located on the Big Island, one at the Prince Kuhio Plaza in Hilo and the other at the Kona Coast Shopping Center. A spokeswoman says that additional statewide appearances will be scheduled at a later date.
