Autopsy on Wailea Beach Victim Completed

Official autopsy reports have been released on the 53-year-old Seattle man, identified as David Green Thompson, who died at Wailea Beach in Puako on Sunday.

According to information released by the Hawai’i Police Department, the autopsy determined that Thompson died of asphyxia due to drowning.

Thompson, who was found motionless in the water, was brought to shore by a kayaker on Dec. 28. Lifeguards and the Hawai’i Fire Department tried to revive the man with no success. He was pronounced dead at Kona Community Hospital.
