The body of a 13-year-old boy who went missing on Sunday morning was located Wednesday. After jumping from a 15-foot cliff at Hapuna Beach Park with friends, the boy went missing. The boy reportedly did not know how to swim.

According to the Hawai’i Fire Department at about 12:30 p.m., a lead given by bystanders led to the confirmation that a body was lodged in a cave system. There was limited access from above the ground, so a recovery was attempted through the cave.

At about 1:32 p.m., the body was turned over to the Hawai’i Police Department for identification. The family was informed and directed to HPD for further processing.

Both HFD and the Coast Guard searched in the area, nearshore areas of the beach, and the adjacent shoreline.

HFD utilized a rescue boat, one chopper and rescue divers during its efforts.

The Coast Guard used the Coast Guard Cutter Kiska to search further offshore from the area that the HFD was covering.
