Pahoa Man Charged After Dispute with Parents

A domestic dispute in Hawaiian Beaches Wednesday led to the arrest of 25-year-old Puna man Anthony-James Murray.

According to the Hawai’i Police Department, police responded to a 3 p.m. call on Monday reporting a verbal argument. When officers arrived on scene, they learned that Murray had been involved in a domestic argument with his parents.

During the dispute, Murray damaged his parent’s vehicle, broke two windows in their home, and set fire to their living room carpet. The fire was extinguished by his parents.

Police located Murray at 3:40 p.m. Monday close to the home. At that point, he was arrested and taken to the Hilo police cellblock while detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section continued the investigation.

On Wednesday at 2:50 p.m. Murray was charged with abuse, second-degree criminal property damage, and third-degree arson.

Murray’s bail was set at $5,000. He remained at the cellblock awaiting his initial court appearance, scheduled for Friday.
