The Small Craft Advisory has been extended. This alert is expected to expire on Thursday at 6 a.m. for all Big Island waters including the Alenuihaha Channel. Winds of 25 to 30 knots are expected out of the northeast and seas up to 14 feet. Inexperienced mariners should avoid navigating in these conditions.

We expect typical trade wind weather. Windward and mauka areas can expect morning scattered showers and partly cloudy skies during the day. While the Kona side and coastline should have a mostly clear morning before clouds begin to build in the afternoon. The UHSOEST vog model is predicting voggy conditions in the afternoon as the sea breeze pushes the haze back up onto the leeward side. Vog conditions are forecasted to be lighter than they were yesterday along the Kona coast but still rather thick for the south side. High temperatures should fall in the range of 81° to 86° and around 71° at 5000 feet. In general, east winds from 15 to 30 mph are expected gusting to 45 mph in some spots.

We expect mostly cloudy skies tonight with showers likely for windward and mauka areas and mostly clear skies in leeward spots. Our natural air conditioning is expected to blow out of the east from 15 to 25 mph. Low temperatures should fall in the range of 71° to 76° with a low of about 55° at 5000 feet.
Our current cool, dry trade wind weather conditions are expected to hold through tomorrow. Trade winds are expected to remain breezy through the week with lighter winds currently forecasted for the weekend. Thursday morning unstable conditions could spawn enhanced showers for Hawaii County. Showers will be more active through about Saturday morning. Friday into the weekend there’s the possibility for isolated thunderstorms. A front is expected to reach the islands late this weekend, pushing down the island chain to the Big Island by Tuesday morning. Ahead of the front showery weather is likely to be drawn up out of the south.
