Kahilu Theatre to Present Stars of American Ballet
The Kahilu Theatre will present Stars of American Ballet, on Thursday, Oct. 23. The ballet will offer top-notch choreography with principal and soloist-level dancers from major American companies.
Daniel Ulbricht will both direct and perform in the show with a select ensemble of ballet stars. The program is set to include Swan Lake excerpts, Who Cares by George Balanchine, Liturgy by Christopher Wheeldon, and additional choreography by Jerone Robbins and others.
The director, Ulbricht, a New York City Ballet principal dancer, was born in St. Petersburg, Fla. and began his dance training at the age of 11. At 16, he was invited by the School of American Ballet to continue his training. The SAB is the official school of NYCB.
Ulbricht became an apprentice with NYCB in Dec. 2000, and in 2001, he joined the company as a member of the corps de ballet. He ranked as soloist in 2005 and later became principal dancer in May 2007.
Currently, Ulbricht is the Artistic Advisor of Manhattan Youth Ballet and the Associate Artistic Director of the New York State Summer School for the Arts.
In addition, he is the founder and director of “Daniel Ulbricht and Friends,” a dance ensemble devoted to presenting high caliber dance performances, as well as education and outreach programs.
The show will support dance education programs to build a better awareness and overall experience with the art form of ballet.
A youth show will be held on Friday, Oct. 24 at 9 a.m. Schools, those who are home schooled, and parents with young children are welcome to register and learn more this and other youth shows at the theater’s website.
Tickets to the Thursday night show cost $66/$56/$46/$20.
