The Hawai’i County Department of Parks and Recreation has scheduled fire ant treatments at a number of public parks island wide.

Weather permitting, the parks will temporarily close during the morning hours of their scheduled day while ant bait is applied. Signs will be posted at each site so that the public is aware of the closures.

The following parks will be affected:

Waiākeawaena Park on Wednesday, Oct.8

Na‘alehu Park on Thursday, Oct. 9

Waiākea-Uka Park and Stanley Costales Waiākea-Uka Gym on Monday, Oct. 13

Machado Acres Park on Tuesday, Oct. 14

‘Āinaola Park on Wednesday, Oct. 15

‘Āinakō Park on Thursday, Oct. 16

Hakalau Veterans Park on Thursday, Oct. 16

These closures are part of the ongoing efforts to battle fire ants at public recreational areas. Last week, two East Hawai’i Parks were closed for similar maintenance.
