Construction Closes Kalapana Lava Viewing Area

The County of Hawai’i Department of Parks and Recreation has closed the Kalapana Lava Viewing Area as a safety precaution while construction takes place on Chain of Craters Road.
The area, which is located near the end of Highway 130 in lower Puna, will be closed until further notice, limiting access to area residents.
The Department thanks the public for their patience and understanding while the closure is in effect.
