Changes Made to This Weekend’s BIIF Football Schedule
For the second straight week, Kea`au High School will not be fielding a junior varsity football team.
The cancellation of Friday’s junior varsity game between the Cougars and Kealakehe from Waverider Stadium is one of three changes to this weekend’s Big Island Interscholastic Federation football schedule.
The varsity matchup between Kea`au and Kealakehe will start promptly at 7 p.m.
Last week, Kea`au did not field a junior varsity team to play against Hilo.
There will be no 8-man football game on Saturday between Waiakea’s junior varsity team and Kohala. The game was initially put on the schedule back in August to be played before the Warriors’ varsity game at Hawai`i Preparatory Academy.
Waiakea Athletic Director Thomas Correa announced the change on Tuesday.
The other change to this week’s schedule is in the game times for Saturday’s football games between Konawaena and Hilo.
Hilo Athletic Director Kurt Kawachi made the request earlier this week to move the junior varsity game to 4 p.m. for the school’s homecoming festivities. Konawaena Athletic Director Bill Trumbo agreed to the time change, which moves the varsity kickoff to approximately 6:30 p.m. at Wong Stadium.
The game was initially supposed to be broadcast on ESPN Radio AM 850 Hilo and AM 790 Kona, but because of the late time change, coupled with the station’s broadcast of the National League Division Series between St. Louis and the Los Angeles Dodgers, the game will no longer be broadcast.
