Two West Hawai’i Transfer Stations will be closed on Saturday, Oct. 11 due to road closures for the Ironman World Championship Triathlon in Kona.

According to the County of Hawai’i’s Department of Environmental Waste, the Pu’uanahulu Landfill in Waikoloa and the Kealakehe Recycling and Transfer Station in Kailua-Kona will be affected.

The Recycling and Transfer Station in Kealakehe will shut down all services for the day, including residential rubbish disposal, Hi5 redemption, 2-Bin recycling, green waste recycling, the Re-Use Store and mulch pick-up.

Residents are asked to use the Keauhou Recycling and Transfer Station as an alternative. Residential rubbish disposal, Hi5 redemption, and 2-Bin recycling will be open and functioning at this location.

Regular operating hours will resume on Sunday, Oct. 12 for the Kealakehe Recycling and Transfer Station and on Monday, Oct. 13 for the Pu’uanahulu Landfill.
