Pepe’ekeo Resident Faces Second Burglary Charge In One Week
A Pepe’ekeo resident arrested last week for burglary and theft now faces an additional burglary charge.
Scott Taira, 21, was arrested last week and charged with burglary and theft in connection with a break-in on Sept.4 on Maukaloa Street in Pepe’ekeo.
His latest charge stems from an incident on Aug. 31.
According to a police report, residents of Andrade Road in Pepe’ekeo allege they saw Taira arriving at their neighbor’s house who were away at the time.
The neighbors then told police that they confronted Taira before he ran away.
Detectives arrested Taira on Wednesday, Sept. 10 at Hawaiʻi Community Correctional Center and took him to the Hilo Police Department, where he was charged with first-degree burglary for the Aug. 31 break-in.
His bail is set at $5,000.
