No Tsunami Advisory After 7.0 Peru Quake
The United States Geological Survey has reported that a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck the west coast of Peru at 1:22 p.m. Hawai`i Standard Time.
According to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, the sizeable quake is not expected to generate a tsunami threat to the Hawaiian Islands.
The quake occurred 26 miles east-northeast of Tambo, Peru, in a historically active seismic region. Since 1900, several magnitude 8.0 earthquakes have struck the area.
Earlier today, a 6.0 earthquake shook Northern California, rattling bay area residents and causing widespread damage in Napa Valley.
It was the largest quake to strike the region in 25 years, leading Gov. Jerry Brown to declare a state of emergency.
As of the time of publication, no tsunami advisory had been issued in relation to the northern California quake.
