Hawaiʻi Island police have charged a Hilo man in connection with a robbery Wednesday outside a Kanoelehua Avenue restaurant.

Shannon L. Y. Estocado, 30, faces charges of second-degree robbery, first-degree unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle and third-degree assault.

Police said Estocado is suspected of entering the passenger door of a 2004 Mazda sedan that was occupied by a 54-year-old woman at 10:58 a.m. Wednesday, July 30. The woman told police that her assailant hit her in the chest and head with a closed fist, and stole her car keys, cellular phone and prescription medication.

Her assailant then left the area in a brown jeep being driven by an unknown person, police said. Their investigation led to Estocado’s arrest a short time later on Railroad Avenue.
