‘Symphony Of Orchids’ Largest Show In Hawai`i
The Hilo Orchid Society will stage the “largest and most comprehensive orchid show and sale in the state of Hawai`i” July 31 through Aug. 3 at Edith Kanaka`ole Stadium, said a media release.
The orchid extravaganza, dubbed a “Symphony of Orchids,” opens with a preview party on July 31, presented as a fundraiser for the Orchid Society’s scholarship fund and Ku`ikahi Mediation Center on the day before the show-and-sale opens formally to the public. Tickets are sold separately for the preview party. Click here for more info.
The Orchid Show and Sale itself opens 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 1; Saturday’s hours are 9-5 and Sunday 10-2 p.m. Ticket are $5 for adults, and free for children under 12. A “superpass” good for three days is available for $8.
The show features thousands of orchid displays, including exotic species and hybrids not typically found at major retail and grocery stores. Orchids for everyone from beginners to expert growers and other orchid-related items will be for sale.
Lectures and demonstrations are scheduled throughout the show and on Saturday, a unique orchid and Hawaiian-themed Wahine Toa fashion show will be presented.
Hawaiian musical entertainment will be performed at lunch times and in the late afternoons, and locally sourced food will be available, the release said.
