Mauna Kea Beach Hotel will be celebrating its 50th anniversary all throughout next year and as part of the celebration, the hotel is reaching out to the community to help fill four themed displays being planned for the iconic hotel in each quarter of the year.

The themed displays will be golf and tennis during the first quarter, beach the second quarter, food and beverage the third quarter, and art, architecture and design for the fourth quarter.

The resort is seeking memorabilia and mementos that community members may have that they would be willing to loan to the exhibits, including such items as Mauna Kea dishware, glassware and logo wear, and particularly items from the 1960s and 1970s.

“Numerous other activities are being planned throughout 2015 for this hallmark occasion with much more information to come,” explained hotel manager Phyllis Branco. “Importantly right now is the gathering of appropriate and meaningful items that will resonate with guests and our community.”

The hotel, operated by Prince Resorts Hawaii, was developed by Laurence S. Rockefeller and opened in July 1965.

Anyone with interesting items they are willing to loan to the exhibit should call Vicky Kometani, public relations director, at 882-5155.
