Elderly Man Assaulted in Puna Home Invasion

Police are investigating a home invasion in Puna early Monday during which an elderly man was assaulted and threatened.

Police said the incident occurred on Ala Heiau Road, located along the shoreline at the bottom of the Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision.

Officers responding to a call shortly after 3 a.m. were told that two men, one armed and both wearing masks, came into the house and confronted the occupants, a 68-year-old man and 70-year-old woman.

The victims reported that the suspects had entered through an unlocked door and began removing items from a bedroom.

Police said one of the suspects struck and threatened the male victim.

The suspects left from the rear of the house with electronic items.

The case has been classified as a first-degree burglary, first-degree terroristic threatening and third-degree assault.
