Clear skies over Hilo Saturday helped tie a record low temperature in the city, the National Weather Service said.
The temperature early Saturday morning at the airport dropped to 64 degrees, which tied the record low for May 31 last set in 2007.
Sixty-four degrees is the warmest minimum temperature during the month of May in the Big Island’s city by the bay. It was set twice, on May 29 and May 31, during multiple years.
The all-time record low for the month of May in Hilo is 59 degrees, set on May 10 in 1971 and tied on May 8, 1992.
