A Hilo-based space research facility is looking for a dozen young women looking to pursue a career in science.
The Pacific International Space Center for Exploration Systems, also known as PISCES, is accepting applications for its week-long 2014 STEM Aerospace Research Scholars program. STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Applicants for the workshop scheduled from July 7-11 in Hilo must be female high school students on the Big Island currently in their sophomore or junior year.
Classes will involve space lectures, activities, guest speakers, video presentations, team test/challenges, and a field day with the newly-acquired PISCES Moon rover.

The team with the highest score from the team test/challenges will have the opportunity to spend one night at the HI-SEAS Mars Habitat on Mauna Loa.
Twelve students will be selected for the free program.
Qualified candidates must have a GPA of 3.25 or higher and be interested in a career in aerospace or other STEM-related field.
