A South Kohala woman has been charged with eight felony offenses for allegedly stealing a checkbook and then forging and cashing checks.
The victim, a 58-year-old Waimea woman, reported to police on April 7 that a new checkbook from her bank had been stolen. Police learned that some of the checks had been used and cashed.
Officers arrested Josephine Miranda on Monday at a bank in Kealakekua where she was allegedly trying to cash another forged check.
On Tuesday Miranda, 23, of Waimea was charged with two counts each of theft, ID theft, forgery and possession of unauthorized personal information.
Miranda’s bail was set at $22,000 pending an initial court appearance.
