Record-High Work Force Seen in Hawaii

Hawaii’s labor force swelled to to a record-high 658,450 in March, according to the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations.

Hawaii County’s unemployment rate in March 2013 was 6.8%.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for March statewide was 4.5%, down from 6% in February.

Among the labor force, 29,700 people were unemployed in Hawaii in March. Nationwide, the seasonally adjusted rate was 6.7%, the DLIR reported.

Unemployment numbers in March fell in all Hawaii counties. The non-seasonally adjusted rate for the Big Island fell from 6.1% in February to 5.9% in March.
