Crews to Remove Kamehameheha Ave. Traffic Signal

The public should expect more traffic delays as work continues on the renovation of a several-block stretch of Kamehameha Avenue near Hilo’s bayfront.

Crews are scheduled Tuesday — weather permitting — to remove a traffic signal pole at the southeast corner of Kamehameha Avenue and Pauahi Street, near the Chevron station.

The project is expected to last from 7:30 p.m. to midnight.

The work was previously scheduled for tonight but was postponed because of rain.

Traffic will be directed by off-duty police officers into single lanes.

The $13 million effort involves major renovations to the road, its sidewalks and drainage from Ponahawai Street to a location just short of the Hilo Iron Works building adjacent to Wailoa Bridge.
