Captain Cook Man Charged in Kona Burglary
A 20-year-old Kona man is facing multiple charges in connection with a burglary early Tuesday in Kealakekua.
A 75-year-old woman living on Kiloa Road called police at 4:36 a.m. to report she awoke to find a man in a green hooded sweatshirt rummaging through items in her apartment.
After the suspect fled, the woman found that her purse had been stolen from her truck.
Responding officers detained a man matching the description of the suspect. Further investigation linked the man, identified as John Small of Captain Cook, to the burglary.
Further investigation led to the recovery of property belonging to the victim and items removed from another vehicle at the same apartment complex. Police also seized nearly five grams of marijuana.
Police on Wednesday charged Small with first-degree burglary, two counts of unauthorized entry of a vehicle, two counts of theft and single counts of theft of a credit card, unauthorized possession of personal information and promotion of a detrimental drug.
Small’s bail was set at $68,000 pending an initial court appearance.
