Phone Calls About Clearing Up Warrants a Scam
The public is being advised of an ongoing scam involving the supposed clearing of warrants involving jury duty.
A spokeswoman for the state Department of Public Safety said members of the public are being called by someone claiming to be a sheriff deputy serving warrants for people who did not show up for jury duty.
They are offering to clear up the warrant if people will pay for a product or service, spokeswoman Toni Schwartz said.
“Deputy sheriffs will never call people about warrants having to do with jury duty or solicit the purchase of anything,” Schwartz said.
She said the phone calls appear to be made randomly.
Anyone receiving such a call is asked to call the Sheriff Division at 808-586-1352.
