A fire of unknown origin heavily damaged a home early this morning in the Hawaiian Beaches subdivision near Pahoa.

Firefighters responding to a 2:38 a.m. call found one bedroom in the home at 15-2700 Nehu St. in flames.

It took them about seven minutes to have the blaze under control and another nine minutes to extinguish it.

The 1,300-square-foot, single-story home valued at $150,000 sustained an estimated $70,000 in damage.

No one was injured.

Red Cross volunteers were working to assist the home’s occupants with food, shelter and clothing.
