A 55-year-old Kamuela man has been arrested in connection with a case of harassment by stalking.
On Dec. 17, police received several reports of a green sedan being chased through Waimea town by a green Dodge van.
Police determined that the driver of the van was trying to get the driver of the sedan, who is the new boyfriend of the van driver’s ex-girlfriend, to pull over to instigate a fight.
Police said the van driver attempted to block the other man’s car and collided with it on several occasions until the victim was able to make his way to the parking lot of the Waimea police station. The suspect then fled in the van.
On Monday, South Kohala patrol officers conducting a seat-belt enforcement effort stopped the suspect, who was identified as John Amina.
He was arrested on suspicion of five counts of first-degree terroristic threatening, two counts of promoting a dangerous drug, and single counts of criminal property damage, reckless driving, harassment by stalking, driving without a license, causing an accident involving a vehicle and property, promoting a detrimental drug and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Amina was being held today at the Kona police cellblock without charges pending further investigation.
